After a sculpture baccalaureate at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1995, Pathy Tshindele continues his studies until obtaining the title of graduated in fine arts with a sculpture minor in 1999. In 2003 he is one of the founding members of the artist collective "Eza Possible". From 2005 to 2008 he studies at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs of Strasbourg. Interested in the proximity relation he has with his native city, he tries to put aside what he learned at school to learn more from the streets, the daily life, the atmosphere, the warmth of the city of Kinshasa. By doing so, he creates a work can be situated between contemporary art and the peintres populaires that he saw since he was a child. He develops performances in the urban space, his own personal street art. Connecting art to life, Pathy Tshindele wants to question the world and let the violence and the urgency make a mark on his work. It is his way of letting his country enter his art, a country as vast as its wealth, to cross culture and politics. But perhaps his paintings are what capture at best the revolt, the language, life, the street, the light. His paintings capture the intertwining of his personal history, the one of the population, the world to which he belongs.
"EZA POSSIBLE means: everything is possible. We think we are capable of developing a contemporary art and a situation in Africa. The atmosphere, the agitation, the speed, the light, the furor of this megalopolis are comprised in my paintings".
The group Eza Possible was created in 2003 at the Academy of Fine Arts of Kinshasa amongst a group of students. They come up with the idea of using what is roaming in the streets, what people don't want anymore, "stories", carcasses, scrap metal, leftovers from everyday life to transform them into installations and put them in the middle of the Academy. The exhibition "Kinshasa Wenze Wenze" is organized. Wenza means "small market" in Lingala, Kinshasa bric-à-brac.
"The team spirit is like scrap metal. As long as it's separated, it doesn't do anything. But when we assemble, when we weld together, it does something". After the exhibition, the collective establishes itself around 6 artists: Pathy Tshindele, Méga Mingiedi, Eddy Ekete, Kura Shomali, Kennedy Dinanga and Freddy Mutombo.
Eza Possible...
Trying to find a meaning where it seems to have disappeared, desire a free art, contemporary, far for the current norms and canons, enable artistic exchanges, the creation of pluridisciplinary artworks. Workshops and artist residencies mixing artists from different horizons, in connection with other forms of artistic expression: theatre, video, music, architecture, dissemination and sharing policy through exhibitions, performances, demonstrations in every shape, the organisation of courses for students, but also amateurs, young publics..
