For the 2022 edition of Paris Photo, the MAGNIN-A gallery is pleased to present a solo show by Nathalie Boutté. Her artistic approach was initiated by her encounter with photography. As the material with which she worked every day, paper slowly grew to become her favorite media. Very carefully, she cuts thin strips of paper using sheets from old books, road maps, bank bills and most often Japanese paper. It's on these sheets that she first prints a text that inspires her. She plays with the thickness of the letters and the space between the lines in order to obtain a grayscale similar to that seen in old silver prints. Her work sits at the meeting point between the practices of fixing and creating an image. Her new series, focused on the intimate in a troubled period, unveils a set of close-up shots, portraits of her close circle, revealing a range of emotions that echo her own feelings.
